The Microsoft Word and PDF versions of the legal documents are set up so that the only required content changes are done so in the “fill-in-the-blank” boxes. This recommended use ensures that the legal context is correct as written by our attorneys, while still allowing the user to add in custom information as necessary.
To add custom content to these form field boxes, simply insert your cursor into the box and type your answer. Then use the Tab key to move to the next box.
A change can be made to the baseline content of a form, but we DO NOT RECOMMEND this. The following describes how to access that baseline content.
MICROSOFT WORD FORMAT:
To remove all protection from a Word document, email Standard Legal requesting the password that was applied to the document. Then:
Current Microsoft Word / Office versions:
1. On the Review tab, in the Protect group, click Restrict Editing.
2. The Restrict Editing icon is shown on the Review tab
3. In the Restrict Editing task pane, click Stop Protection.
4. If you are prompted to provide a password, type the password.
Microsoft Word Office 2010:
1. On the Review tab, in the Protect group, click Restrict Editing.
2. In the Restrict Formatting and Editing task pane, click Stop Protection.
3. If you are prompted to provide a password, type the password.
Microsoft Word 2007:
1. On the Review tab, in the Protect group, click Protect Document, and then click Restrict Formatting and Editing.
2. In the Restrict Formatting and Editing task pane, click Stop Protection.
PDF FORMAT
Standard Legal’s form field PDFs are “Reader Enabled”, which restricts modification of the baseline content of the file. Only those users who have the commercial version of Adobe Acrobat DC can edit the baseline content of our PDFs. (The free Adobe Reader does not provide access to baseline document content.)
IMPORTANT NOTE: when a user accesses the baseline content, it eliminates the functionality of the fillable form fields in every PDF, always. You will be able to access, copy/paste and edit the baseline content, but you cannot use the form field functionality again after that.
To access:
If the File toolbar is active, “Save a Copy” of the PDF file (File > Save a Copy) will allow access to the baseline content.
If the File toolbar is inactive for a specific PDF, the user can access ‘Tools > Prepare Form > Start > Save a Copy’ to save the file without Reader Enabled features.
In either case, the saved copy of the PDF file will no longer have the blank form fields from the Reader Enabled features available, thus allowing for baseline content modification.
Again, we always recommend that you leave the form locked and use it as the authors intended!
