In most instances, you are permitted to obtain a federal tax ID number for your Trust, but said number may not be required, depending on how the trust will be taxed.

If you do not wish to spend the time applying for a federal tax ID number, you may simply identify the trust using the social security number of one of the donors, as this is commonplace and acceptable.
